About Janie
Janie Ferneau, MSN, RN, is a nursing educator, registered nurse, veteran, and student advocate with more than 20 years of healthcare experience.
Her path into nursing education began with a deep respect for the responsibility nurses carry and the trust patients place in them. That same responsibility now shapes her work with nursing students and faculty.
As a nursing educator, Janie has taught in the classroom, laboratory, simulation, and clinical settings. Her work focuses on helping students develop not only knowledge and skill, but also accountability, clinical judgment, reflection, and readiness for safe nursing practice.
Why Caring with Clarity Began
Caring with Clarity grew from the real conversations nursing faculty have every day — the conversations where compassion, accountability, clinical judgment, professional standards, and student readiness all meet.
Janie created Caring with Clarity because faculty need more than encouragement to “support students.” They need structure, shared language, practical tools, and a sustainable way to coach students without carrying responsibility that belongs to the learner.
At its heart, Caring with Clarity reflects one guiding belief: students grow best when they are supported with compassion, guided with clarity, and held accountable with consistency.
The Caring with Clarity Philosophy
Caring with Clarity begins with the belief that nursing students deserve support that is compassionate, honest, structured, and grounded in professional standards.
This philosophy guides the way faculty coach students toward reflection, ownership, clinical judgment, and readiness for safe entry-level nursing practice.
We Believe...
We believe students deserve both compassion and accountability.
We believe coaching is more powerful than rescuing.
We believe every coaching conversation should preserve both dignity and standards.
We believe clinical judgment begins long before students enter a patient’s room.
We believe reflection transforms experience into learning.
We believe observable behaviors provide a clearer path to growth than intentions alone.
We believe structure creates psychological safety because students know what is expected, how they will be supported, and how progress will be evaluated.
We believe accountability is not something faculty impose—it is something students learn to embrace.
We believe the role of the educator is not to carry students across the finish line, but to guide them toward it with consistency, honesty, and hope.
We believe every student is capable of growth when expectations are clear, coaching is compassionate, and ownership remains with the learner.
We believe the future of nursing depends not only on what students know, but on who they become.
Caring with Clarity is about guiding students with compassion while holding standards with integrity. It supports faculty in caring deeply without rescuing, coaching honestly without shaming, and preparing students not only to pass, but to become reflective, accountable, practice-ready nurses.
